G2’s first game against the French fraggers of Team BDS saw them face off on Theme Park, with G2 fresh off the back of their monumental win at Six Invitational 2023 just weeks before. Therefore, it was expected that G2 would easily take the map against BDS. However, this didn’t turn out to be the case and BDS wrestled for control, losing only to an incredible comeback streak from the world champions.

AceofPyrite noted that Fabian seemed to have “steadied the ship” with his timeout lecture.

BDS took us to Throne Room for the first bombsite of the map, and despite Blurr opening things up early for G2 with his frag onto Shaiiko, Elemzje was quick to answer with a kill of his own onto Doki while holding Cash. Elemzje continued to be a nuisance for G2, holding upstairs control until the last 15 seconds of the map when he was finally cleared. This ultimately proved costly for G2, who despite having four men against two BDS players, they could not secure a single kill more as they pushed onto site, with the remaining defenders effortlessly picking them off as they panicked due to the time constraints they faced.

Round two was a similarly hectic round, with all players alive with just 30 seconds left on the clock. Doki fell first to LikEfac after pushing out of Cash into Office, followed swiftly by Blurr, and the round ended in a much less contestable 2v4 with Alem4o’s Montagne isolated. This signalled teamplay issues coming out of G2, which continued to be displayed until a tactical timeout when G2 became 0-4 down. This timeout seemed to revitalise G2, who won the final two rounds of their attacking half to bring the scoreline to 4-2 in favour of BDS – caster AceofPyrite noted that Fabian seemed to have “steadied the ship” with his timeout lecture.

As BDS headed into their attack, they blundered early suffering from tunnel-vision as they concentrated on clearing G2 players from Drug Lab/Storage, something they only managed with 15 seconds left on the clock – similar to G2’s position on their first attack. Making matters worse was the breach on Throne wall facing the main stairs being too small to vault through. Thus, BDS lost the round, and went on to concede all but one more, as G2 made an impressive comeback to take the map 7-5.

By the end of the game, Doki had a stellar performance, collecting himself 16 kills, with only newcomer Benjamaster slightly letting down the side of G2, posting a 7-10 K/D. BriD and Shaiiko rounded out the bottom of BDS’s scoreboard, going 4-8 and 7-12 respectively, although strong performances from all players at times were noted throughout the game. Overall, the match was full of highlight-reel-worthy moments, with G2 rallying to pull off an impressive turnaround.
